Win2K stand-by problem. Is there some diagnostic support?

Hello,

I have Win2K SP1 running on dual PIII on ABIT VP6. HAL is ACPI SMP Various hardware which I can list if helpful.

When I go into stand-by (start/shutdown/standby/OK), I get the message about going into stand-by. Then the screen goes dark and the hard drive stops spinning. The case and CPU fans do not stop (at least not immediately, I never waited very long). After that, there is nothing I can do to wake it up again. Not moving/clicking the mouse, not typing on the keyboard. Not pressing the power switch. The only way out is to power down by pressing the power switch > 4 seconds, or unplugging. then I can turn it on again.

Is there some way I can ask Win2K what it can see about my setup which could prevent the wakeup?

What happens when you enable Hibernate? Also, have you installed the latest drivers from Abit? I know that I had the same problem with a SuperMicro board. I resolved the problem with a BIOS update and also newer drivers.

I did not try hibernate.

The only drivers to install are the VIA AGP driver, which I installed version 4.04 of. There is no BIOS update, although there are roumors of an Alpha version. There are also rumours of Win2K SP2 with fixes for VIA chip issues.

Have you tried contacting Abit with your problem? It really seems more of a mobo problem than software related.
