I havn't been in the forum for a long time so this is probably old news... but if you don't like the idea of agreeing to Microsoft's new EULA for Win2k SP3 or the "auto-install" windows update feature....check out my links over in THIS THREAD AT ANANDTECH for some interesting alternatives.

Disclaimer: I had absolutely NOTHING to do with this idea. I AM, however, a regular reader of news from "The Register" so.......

I might as well just put the links in THIS thread:

Here's the link to "The Register's" article about the situation and here's the link to become an ENABLER....

I don't see the big deal about the Auto-Update thing... it's not that big of a chore to turn it off.

This whole thing about Windows Spyware just sounds like people being paranoid. Not saying it's right or wrong, but what do you have to hide? Are you a participant in an illegal activity involving your computer or software on your computer? I don't think Microsoft intends to "break" your computer or send you viruses, which was mentioned in an article about the EULA. Very simple solution... if you don't like Microsoft, or the way they do business, don't buy their products. Go get yourself a distro of Linux. You can download pretty much any distro you want for free legally. I've been told some apps. designed for Windows actually run better in Linux using an emulator.

I KNOW what the "FU" part of "FUD" means, but what word does the "D" stand for???

Ralf: Thanks for the link! Ironically, just a day after posting my question I was reading an article in a PC magazine in which they used the term FUD, Fear Uncertainty and Doubt, so NOW I know... but sincerest thanks for the useful link. :)
