Just installed SP3, and I noticed that my system is somewhat snappier (definately noticeable). Anyone else experienced this?

Thanks:)

I just downloaded it and had it install just fine. Didn't seem to take too long to install. So far, I haven't seen that many changes, but I have only messed with in for a few minutes. Seems stable just like SP2

Don't forget that Service Packs contain all prior service pack information. So when you download SP3, you are also getting all the info in SP1 & SP2 with it. At least that's what I've heard.

They do, but that doesn't make them exponentially bigger, it just contains the newest version of the file.

I don't care what the explanation is, a 124Mb "service pack" is ridiculous. Having recently (finally) converted to broadband, I can still feel the pain of the majority of Internet users out there.

Before you know it, MS will be charging you for it...and not just the shipping fee for the CD they have now....but everyone, including people downloading it.

And I've just had a report of a Win2K box BSOD'ing after the first reboot after SP3 install, it's not all peaches and cream.

What you don't realize is that those 124MB downloaded probably replace 120MB or so of existing files. It's not like you're adding that much info to the system; you're replacing older files with newer ones.

I realize it's probably a long list (above the security patches) ...but what are the "highlights" of what is included in sp3? Please, remember to explain "in detail" what are the features and benefits. I'm just kidding about the features and benefits part.

How about a link to the info?

yes, of course, MS's only purpose is to wreak evil on the world, just keep telling your self that.

That's a bit of an exaggeration. I don't think they want to kill ALL of us, just some of us when they conquer the world in an evil crusade ;) .

I am NOT one of those who thinks Microsoft is some evil entity with eyes on global dominance. I have never said anything remotely close to that. I simply stated that it is likley that they will start charging for some of these upgrades in the future. Will that stop me from downloading? Probably not.

In fact, some of the companies (Netscape in particular) that whine about Microsoft's monopolistic practices would have done well to shut up and actually develop a product that was competitive to IE. What did Netscape come up with? Netscape 6, a disasterous excuse for a browser, and an embarrassment to the Mozilla technology that it utilized. Thankfully, Mozilla 1.0 has proven that it is indeed a great browser.

It may be true that some computer users out there are too stupid to realize they dont have to use IE, but the vast majority do realize that. The fact remains that many of these companies upset with MS should have devoted their resources to R+D, rather than attorney's fees.

So, in other words, dpopuiz, your sarcastic remark couldn't be further from my actual beliefs...but I do thank you for playing.

Agreed about Netscape. Netscape 6 went over like a bag of rocks.

I will install SP3 tonight. If I notice any speed differences I'll let you know.

If you don't hear from me... that means there is no change.

Us MS haters make you mad eh? You wanna fight then? I live in Toronto .. I challenge you to a duel.

The reason I hate microsoft is because they take standards and protocols that are respected and abided by by every other company, and just make their own, making things a lot more difficult (and expensive) for everyone.

The login is a lot slower than on sp2, anyone else run into this?

Why does the SPs take so much space even if you dont want to use the uninstall option?
