Win2K SP1 --> SP4

Hello all,
The laptop I use at work is an old Dell P3 (pretty decent actually), but has Win 2K and is badly in need of updates. Still running IE5 and all. If I run Windows Update and do SP4, then IE6 SP1, then all other relevant updates, should I worry about conflicts or problems? There is a LOT of old junk files on this laptop that I don't want to touch due to their excessive quantity. Any reason why I would definitely have to back up before I update everything? I've only worked with updating 2K once before, and that was on a fresh install so there was little risk of conflicts.
Thanks in advance

It's always good practice to backup all of your important files before doing any type of major update. But from my experience, I've always had a flawless install with SP4.

Agreed, although the install will typically go without event you should alway perform a backup before doing anything major.

There is an old saying that goes "you're only as good as your last backup" 😉
