Win2k, sp1 and unneeded services

Installed 2k now that I have broadband access again.
Do i need sp1? does it increase performance for gaming or inet apps?
And which services do i really need to run?
Single machine, on a 2way cable connection.
No LAN plans yet.
Which services can i live or live with out
Any 2k gurus drop me a mail at...

I don't know about better performance, I heard it might improve performance by5%-10% but I don't know personally. but it would give you better security, specially uaing a ""always on" internet service, unless your running some firewall software then don't worry about

It's not supposed to improve performance. They are mainly supposed to be packs of updates to make sure people have fixes to all the problems. You should DEFINITLY install it.

Looks like SP1 has been covered. ;)

As for unneeded services, Urbantechie recently sent me the following in a PM:

<< Disable any IIS services, Qos, The ones with "Distributed" in front of it, FTP/WWW Publisher, SMTP, FTP NNTP, and webserver. That should get a load off your ram. Good Luck! >>
