I recently upgraded my PC to Win2k. I haven't had any complaints except for one. I have a Diamond Monster MX400 sound card. Whenever I play an mp3 or another high-quality sound, I get static plus the sound coming through my right speaker. Left speaker is fine. I've tried headphones and I get the same result. Here are my specs:

Motherboard: VT-503+ V1.2
Chipset: VIA APOLLO MVP3
Processor: AMD K6-2 350
Memory: Multiwave 32X64 PC133 256MB SDRAM DIMM

I upgraded to Direct X 8, but still have the same result. MIDI plays beautifully. I haven't found any Win2k drivers for the sound card, so I'm hoping someone can help me.

Happy Holidays, and thank you in advance.

I realize this may not help, but for another data point, my MX400 is working (such as it does) in W2k with no problems.

I would try putting the card in a different slot (or just removing and re-inserting in the same slot) but if nothing works perhaps try it in a machine that still has Win98 on it: If it behaves just as badly perhaps the card got ESD'd while retrofitting your system.

BTW I say "such as it does" above because AFAIK there are no drivers for the MX400 in W2K to support the rear speaker outputs or the digital out. If anyone can steer us to some equivalent drivers (non-Diamond) that'd be great.

Just tried to do what you suggested, sans the Win98 trick. No go. Maybe the sound card is bad, or maybe my processor isn't up to stats (AMD K6-2 350). Kinda bums me out, because everything else is working beautifully.

Any other input from you or other users will be greatly appreciated.
