One one of my win2k machines, if I make a share that allows read but not write, I can not read either. I can list folder contents but can't open any files. Has anyone ever seen this before? I even ensured the NTFS permissions are set ok and they are, as well as the network share ones. both accounts have password synced etc... really out of ideas as to why it's doing this.

A restart helps with random Windows problems :)

Also tried deleting the share and creating it again?

Yep tried deleting it... but I did forget to reboot... it sure does fix windows issues a lot. :D Interestingly enough, I shared the parant folder instead, using same permissions, and it works now. In this case it's not an issue to share a level higher like that so just sticked to that. Later on I'll try to share the folder I want and it will probably work. Windows is like that. lol

Can you be a little less vague? What are the exact NTFS permissions. What groups have read on the share level? What groups have what permissions on the file level? If it is a group you created (not Everyone, Users, etc), have you logged off and logged back on since you added yourself.

Reboots rarely fix anything, and there are several cases where rebooting will make things worse.

Like I said, the NTFS permissions are set properly, the user has read access, and the share permissions are the same as well. But if I share the parent folder then it works, it's just if I share that folder directly, that I can't open any files (but I can see them)
