win2k server problems

i did a reformat and reinstall of win2k server and when i went to install the latest nvidia reference drivers....my computer crashes with a dark screen and makes a buzz noise through the speakers upon entering the GUI...WTF???!!! it happens everytime..so i booted into safe mode and it got into windows fine.
my specs are:
asus p3v4x mobo
p3600e (non-overclocked)
384 MB PC-100 RAM
Sound Blaster Live!
Diamond Viper 770 (TNT2)

i had to use a recent backup of win2k to get back into windows...i also could not install the via 4-in-1 drivers.......are there issues i should know with win2k server...maybe i should just use win2k professional instead...please help. thanks.

ok the detonator 3 try the detonator 2 (better for non geforce chipsets i heard/read and did (much better with my tnt1)

and check the via website for known compatibility issues (i had a via chipset once, gave me problems, and it MIGHT have been with my tnt1, but i don't remember exactly)

Your Computer May Hang When Running in ACPI Mode

SYMPTOMS
When your Windows 2000-based computer that is running in Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) mode uses the ACPI Power Management Timer (PMTimer) as a high resolution counter, you may experience any of the following symptoms:

You may experience problems or poor performance when playing back audio or video streams.


Your computer may display an error message on a blue screen and stop responding (hang).





CAUSE
This issue can occur if your computer has a chipset that causes the PMTimer to make time appear to run backwards. The following chipsets are known to cause these issues on Windows 2000-based computers:

Via
SIS
ALI
RCC



RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, obtain and install Windows 2000 Service Pack 1.

IMPORTANT: This is not a problem with any of the operating systems listed earlier in this article. This is a hardware problem, however Microsoft is providing this fix to prevent this issue from occurring on Windows 2000-based computers that have chipsets from the manufacturers listed earlier in this article.
