Win2k Server & ISA Server Config

Hello,

I am working on a Windows 2000, SP4 box that has ISA Server 2000 on it.

The machine is able to get to the internet and browse anywhere fine, but cannot complete the windows update. It will scan for the updates and will show available. When you choose the packages you want and then click install it instantly shows they are unable to be downloaded and fails with an error "FATAL: IsUpdateRequired failed with error 0x80072efd"

Updates are also not able to download and install form Symantec LiveUpdate and Automatic Update.

Client machines are able to do both, this is only happening on this server. There is only one server at this location.

Another note is that the time was off by about 8-9 minutes and errors in the event viewer shows that w32time hasn't synced in a few days
 
I see that you have a Proxy Server listed:
ssa-server-01.southwickspecialty.com:8080
Is that this Server? (I assume)

You are getting download job failures because of "proxy auth or server auth".
Probably the best tactic is to start with the FIRST error and fix that. That'll probably fix the rest of the errors that follow.

If you think it's an ISA error, does ISA 2000 have a realtime monitor that lists blocked packets and the rule that blocked them? ISA 2004 does, but I've never used ISA 2000.

Finally, there's always the "universal fix" for Windows Update failure:
Empty all the Temporary Files in I.E. 🙂

Looks like doing a loopback of 127.0.0.1:8080 was the trick. Worked like a charm, all updates are working for all applications now.
