Win2K Server as DC in NT 4.0 Domain

I'm adding a new, Win2K Server machine to an existing NT 4.0 Domain with a single NT 4.0 server. When I ran DCPROMO to make the new Win2K Server a Domain Controller, it wanted me to install Active Directory. I didn't want to install AD unless I have to since this a simple office network. I added the Win2K Server to the NT 4.0 Domain as just a Member Server. If I ran DCPROMO again now that the Win2K Server is part of the existing Domain, will I be able to promote it to a DC without going with Active Directory? If I wanted to run Active Directory, doesn't that mean I have to use the TCP/IP protocol on all of the machine? The way the office network is now, the client machines that need Internet access are given an IP address by the DHCP service of the NT 4.0 Server. The rest of the client machines use the IPX protocol networking with the server. There aren't enough Internet IP address for all of the machines. Any ideas?

You cannot make a Windows 2000 server a domain controller without installing Active Directory.

Additionally, to migrate an NT4 domain to a W2K domain, you must upgrade the PDC to Windows 2000 before migrating any other DC's.
