Why does Win2k Pro screw up my password in dial-up networking. It adds to it a number of digits equal to my full name. I keep changing it but it won't stay changed. I looked in the registry and my name is in there in several places. Where is it pulling it from or is it something else?

Are you describing the *'s in the dialog box that appears after you click on IE (or whatever) to log on to the internet? If you are, then this is done so that someone can't see the exact number of characters that your password is. Kind of makes sense, I guess. After I installed Win2k, I wondered the same thing. I thought that I had put the wrong password for my dial-up account, because the characters were about three times the length of my actual password.
If this isn't what you are talking about, then sorry.....

Thanks for the explanation. You are right it will take it the first time, but if I disconnect or am disconnected and try to redial I get a invalid password return from my ISP. So I have to reboot each time to get it to reconnect correctly.

Uhh, strange. If it remembers your password, then I have no idea why it would change it (or screw it up)!?!?!?! Hmmm
