I have a computer running windows 2000 and I would really like to remotely print to a computer running xp. The problem is that even though they are in the same workgroup & network, the win2k computer can't see the fact that the xp computer exists. Is there an easier way to link them up? Can I just tell the 2k computer the ip address of the printer and the printer name?

When I try to ping the computer it doesn't show up. I tried looking on that site but it doesn't discuss shared printers, just sharing files.

ok - is your XP install updated with SP2? If so, check the Firewall settings and see if File and Printer Sharing are in the exceptions list or not. For a quick test, disable the firewall and see if you can ping the PC.

Also, install the Netbeui protocol on the XP and 2000 machines

Here's the procedure for XP - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/301041/EN-US/

It should be pretty similar for 2000 but you won't need to copy any files over
