Howdy,

I know there's a registry entry that will make it so when I go into my display properties, I can no longer see the Screen saver tab. We don't want people messing with their settings at work so I need to find this entry so I can change it. Anyone know what/where ti is by chance?

THanks.

To remove the Screensaver tab goto:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
(note: if there is no current System key, create one)

Add the Dword:

NoDispScrSavPage

with the Dword value set to 1 to enable

Perfect. Thanks!

Also works with:

NoDispBackgroundPage = 1 if you dno't want the background tab to show up either. Probably can do it with all of them...

Another way to do this is to use the Group Policy Editor (start>run> then type GPEDIT.MSC, or you can add it as a snap in to the MMC) . In the Group Policy Editor under "User Configuration" open "Administrative Templates" and then open "Control Panel" and click on "Display" and you'll see an option for "Hide Screen Saver Tab" along with many others. If you root around in the Policy Editor, you'll find there are many things you can limit or change.

I'm not sure if you can pop up a message, but you can remove access with the group policy editor. In the group policy editor, go to User Configuration>Administrative Templates>Windows Components>Windows Update, and you'll see the option there.

I don't see an entry under Windows Components for Windows Update. I only see NetMeeting, Internet Explorer, Windows Explorer, Microsoft management Console, Task Wcheduler, and Windows Installer.

I looked in each of those and didn'tsee Windows update either. I know some of our PCs have had it disabled because it doesn't show as an option under the Tools Menu in IE and even if you type it in by hand it says that it's been disabled.

Thanks.

Hmmm, I'm not sure why that wouldn't be there. It's on both my PC's (Windows 2000 Pro SP3, Windows XP Pro SP1). There is another option to do it, under User Configuration go to Administrative Templates, and then Start Menu and Task Bar. Under there you should see an item called "Remove Links and Access to Windows Update."
