Just recieved a new computer at work with Win2k Professional (not server). Was bouncing around the net to look for documentation on how this would interact with NT4 Server environment. I can't find anything out there on this particular subject. Lots of docs on the deployment of Win2k server. Has anyone tried this? Any problems? Any links on this subject would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Win2000 behaves better than a lot of NT 4.0 workstations in an NT domain.

I have 25 or so running in an NT 4.0 domain, all domain members, Servers, adv servers, and pro desktops and laptops.

Just don't install Win2k SERVER on an NT4 domain. It will try to take over, ... or so I have heard. :)

SUO is right....2K server will try to take over PDC and other such fun functions....bad bad bad :p

"Umm...right...is that what /. told you?"

Get a life...I don't appreciate the snide comments. This is what happened when an employee dropped a 2K server on our NT network, so I'm speaking from experience. Maibee the server wasn't administered properly, but that *is* what happened. It's a word of warning since it's obviously possible.

And next time, why don't you just call me an ignorant bitch and get it over with? :)

"Just don't install Win2k SERVER on an NT4 domain, It will try to take over, ... or so I have heard"

Sorry, but you are completely wrong. I have 10-12 Win2000 servers and adv server's here running IIS 5.0, Quotaed home dirs, time service, Certificate authority, Terminal servers etc etc. All no problems with them "taking over" What you might be reffering to is allowing Win2000 servers or Pro machines to act as master browser's for the domain. This is not a problem as the browser service is easily disabled. However if you do leave it enabled Win2000 *will* win browser elections but this will *not* cause problems. I just disable it as I like to keep tight control over the domain browser's.

"2K server will try to take over PDC and other such fun functions....bad bad bad" Um, Riiiight. Is that what \. told you?
