Win2k Pro vs. Advanced SVR

Are there any differences besides sowftare apps and supported RAM and Chips between Pro and Advanced Server? Loke 3D or speed. Also why was my 3DMark2k scorely nearly slashed in half when i went from Me to 2kPro? Is 2k not that good in 3d? Please advise, I need to pick an OS and if I decide to go the 2k route, I would ike to know which would be better, Pro or AV Svr. For 2k, what do I need to know to get my 3D speeds up to par?

THANKS!!

What do you want with Advanced Server? Are you running one? It's not very cheap 😉 If not get Professional, it's as simple as that...

Win2K is not really a gaming OS. But with proper drivers for your vidcard and mobo (AGP driver) you can come really close to Win9X numbers. Honestly, I wouldn't care a lot about 3dmark as long as your games run fine...

Well, unless you have 4 grand to spend I wouldn't bother with advanced server. It has a ton more overhead than even win 2k server. It comes with lots of cool stuff like terminal server, which lets you log in and run whatever program the server has on it and it uses the server's resources. I would go with pro. It lets you lock down what ports you want to and define any security for any service or device you want to. Don't want you little brother to play games after 4 or 5 pm cause your mom won't stop whining to you about it? Restrict his account and boot him at 4 or 5. It can do it.

Like I said before, unless you want to hook some computers together and create a LAN I would just go with pro. If advanced server is your only option then if you want to game I would DEFINITELY create a user or power user account for it. If you do this it won't load up a whole bunch of administrative tools and garbage to hog resources on bootup.

Run 3dmark2000 as a power user account instead of administrator. There are a lot of services that run as administrator that will slow you down.
