oh, man I just installed win2k and win98 as a dual boot. I can get win98 to work fine with the router. I can't seem to get win2k to connect to the internet at all. Win2k has DHCP installed under the tcp/ip setting and I can't tunr it off. i want the router to do all the network routing and let Win2k access the router to get on the net. How do I do this? in 98, I goto tcp/ip settings and use these settings:

assign ip address auto
under gatway- I input my gateway address given to me by the cable provider
uder dns-2 addresses for server search order, domain suffix, host and domain are all inputted as needed.
Wins is off.

How do I get 2000 to work as well?

My w2k system is set for static ip on a netgear router(very similar to your linky). Its easier this way to forward ports if you decide to use it for FTP/Game server/etc...

Ip address set it to 192.168.1.(10-100) you pick your number-i left the first few numbers for any DHCP computers you may use.
Use subnet- 255.255.255.0
The default gateway should be set to the router- 192.168.1.1
The DNS server should be your ISP provided info...

Your router should be receiving DHCP on the WAN port.

This should work just fine...

Humm. The Linksys router uses 192.168.1.1. Unless you changed it.

So static IP anywhere before 100, anything over 100 is DHCP, even if you set it static. Sub net should enter it's self, and defualt gatway is 192.168.1.1, but it should set it's self in win2k, at least I didn't have to enter it.

DNS server, use your cable modems DNS server, for example mine is 205.151.69.200 and 205.151.68.200, so use your own. you can get this information buy typing int http://192.168.1.1 in any internet explorer.

So the linksys router uses 192.168.1.1 ? my bad i know the netgear router uses 192.168.0.1 so guessed linksys would be the same (i'll fix my previous post with those numbers).

Connecting through the linksys router you have to use the ISP's DNS info on each client? That stinks the netgear 314 does ALL the DNS for you, so all you have to specify is the routers ip for DNS.

Thanks for the corrections about the Linksys. Sounds to me like the netgear is a bit more user friendly...
