Win2k port forwarding with ICS?

Conundrum

Senior member
It's a curious thing indeed. When I had a DHCP server set up (Linux Box)... I could enable port forwarding directly for any port I wanted. The only real reason I was interested in this would be for hosting servers for games. It worked just fine, and the only difficulty you would have is finding out what port any game used.

I don't see a way to do that with ICS. Am I missing something? If so.. please let me know. I'd love to be able to do this with the Win2k box that I'm using as my proxy server now. If not, I'll just hook my old Linux box that was running FreeSCO back up and let it do its thing. There was only one thing I didn't like about it that made me decide to go to Win2k instead. Whenever I would use any program... well, here's a prime example.

I would use Gamespy and it would ping a ton of servers for Counterstrike. It would ping maybe 3-4k servers and then the DHCP server would just take a dump and I'd have to reboot it for it to work again. Nothing could get in or out after I would do that. I never did figure out WHY either. Other than that little glitch, it worked like a dream.. on a little 486 with an 810 meg HD.

I also seem to be incapable of sending any emails through ICS.. unless it's using hotmail or some other email service that uses port 80. =-/

Any ideas for any of my problems would be greatly appreciated. 🙂

right click network, properties
inside there, select the connection your sharing
right click it, hit properties
go to the connection sharing tab
inside there, there are a *bunch* of things you can open up and the internal IPs to point them to.
you can also create new maps by hitting the advanced button, I believe.

Ahhh.. under applications to add an application. I didn't think it would be configured that way. Thanks for the info. I should've just dinked with it. I was at the menu before, but it didn't look to me as though something that would deal with port forwarding.

Now maybe some other people will have suggestions for my other woes. That's one down. 🙂

glad I can help -- post away about whatever else you need [on new threads] and we'll see what we can do.
