win2k pop-up window "Update" on restart

I've tried everything I know to figure this one out but no luck so far. I'm running Windows 2000 and about a month ago starting getting a window pop-up on startup called "Update". I doesn't do anything that I can tell. There is a "Status" window inside the main "Update" window. I opened task manager to try and figure out which process it is and it turns out it's coming from a duplicate "explorer.exe". Anyway, I'm thinking it might be related to VirusScan or Windows Update but haven't been able to verify that or disable it. Has anyone seen this before or know what it is? Much thanks.

Check to see if Automatic Updates are turned on.
