Win2k performance with Kyro2 and ATi Radeon, how are they now?

I just want to know since i haven't tried them out in 2k yet but only 9x. For the Kyro2, how well is the compatiblity with most games? I heard the performance is just as good as 9x but haven't heard anything after that.

About the Radeon, how well is the performance? Is it back on par with 9x or do the drivers still need work?

dont know about the kyro2, but ATI's windows 2k drivers really suck. I'm using a radeon LE reflashed to DDR and all the tweaks from powerstrip and i still get maybe half the performance i do in win9x.

LOL@ your response, ok now i know to stay away from this guys radeon. 🙂 Now all i need is some kyro2 info and i'm all set.

Well for the other side of the coin, I have a radeon vivo and I only lose about 10 fps in win2k. Too many shades of grey... nothing is ever clear-cut anymore is it?

It all depends what you use.

UT is the main game that gets smacked in win2k.. but I've said while my framerate seems to be lower on average, it's that it just doesn't hit as high as 98, BUT, it doesn't hit as low as 98 either if that makes sense.. So the fps range is much more stable in 2k.

I dual booted and the difference wasn't enough to get me to actually boot into 98 to play a game.

There's still some issues with the Radeon and win2k. I get corrupted textures in win2k on some games of mine.

Kyro II is exactly the same speed in Win2k as it is in Win98 and I mean exactly the same in, there's a review that tests the difference between Win98 and Win2k with Radeon, Kyro II and Geforce 2 GTS and MX (its not incredibly thorough but it uses a few games). If you want a link to that review just ask (I'd post it now but I'll have to find it first).

Never had a problem with the Radeon LE with it's BIOS flashed, Hyper-Z enabled, and using the latest beta drivers. There were some problems and speed loss early on in Win2k but thost have been corrected. Just go to rage3d.com and check out the forums. Radeon is a good solid card and for my $ a better ratio of price to performance.

The KryoII W2K drivers offer better performance and stability than the Radeon drivers. Although the latest 3224 drviers for the Radeon are an improvement they are not as polished or offer the same overall compatibility that the 7114 KryoII drivers do at this time.

I found the Radeon drivers to be pretty stable and fast in Win2k from their last released certified set and on to all the beta releases. There is some minor problems. Games that use table fog has never worked period. Hyper Z is broken, works only in half of the driver releases. OPGL seems to be issue free but 3d3 is still lacking in performance. There is some game compatibility issues like Diablo 2 for instance. ATI delivers a excellent product and its just a shame that the crew coding the drivers just cant get it right like Nvidia does.

3224 is not the newest and i happen to think the w2k drivers for the radeon are great. never had any problems with them. I haven't touched 98 in about 1.5 years since i've been using w2k so i can't say anything about those drivers.

I'd just switch over to w2k completely. 98 offers very few advantages anymore over w2k.
