I've heard people using Win2k at home. That's rediculous, unless they've got their own server and hardcore network at home.

Why do those of you who use Win2k at home use it?? Since it's an NT build, and NT was programmed by satan himself, I'll never use Win2k at home.

I'm just curious as to why people use it instead of WinMe or 98se.

Umm... Win2k takes the best of NT and 9x and puts it in one OS. Definately a good combo IMHO. Win2k is stable as hell with good gaming and a nice clean layout and all that (I love the menus). Don't bash it before you try it, you'll be pleasently surprised.

Alas, I don't think I'd even try Win2k unless I had to. Me is better. 2K is, no matter how you look at it, built on NT. I work with NT at work, and I hate it.

Maybe I'll just stick with 98se! :)

ME is garbage, win2k is WAY better. I've used both. ME is no better than 98 its worse because its such a memory hog.

If you ever tried Win2K, you might be pleasantly surprised. I don't like WinNT 4.0 much either....but then Win2K is completely different. Sure Win2K might be "built on NT Technology", but all of that is pretty much hidden away under the hood and all the best bits really stand out.

And who says you need a network to use it? Win2K Pro is absolutely perfect on a standalone work station, and you CAN play games as well. It's stable, it's reliable. I haven't had a crash yet. If you've got the right hardware, it flies....and responds far better than WinME does. At least it doesn't bog your hard drive down with the restore files.

Before you go branding using Win2K as ridiculous without a solid basis for your hypothesis rather than basing it on what is really a backwards evolutionary step, I suggest you try out Win2K yourself and see what people really like about it.

I dual-boot between ME/Win2K and I like both very much. I find ME to be more stable that 98 or even 98SE and I think Microsoft did well on ME. I use ME for gaming and a few apps that will not run in Win2K. I use Win2K because it is very, very stable and reliable. Yes it was built based upon NT, but NT is another whole beast in itself compared to Win2K.

Win2K is a fairly solid gaming platform, but it can not compete head to head with 98/SE/ME. As for networking, Win2K Professional is a workstation platform. A machine can solely exist on its own, or on a network While using Win2K Pro. It may not be the platform to run for the average person, but for the individuals that like to use their time in front of their computer in a productive fashion then Win2K is the way to go.

Win2K is way better than that ME crap. First of all Win2K is very stable and I have been able to play a lot of games on my Win2K box, including Q3 and Half-Life. If I were in your shoes I'd move towards Win2K.

Yup. After I booted up Windows 2K, I knew that would never run Windows 95/98/ME/etc. again :)

I've heard people using Win2k at home. That's rediculous, unless they've got their own server and hardcore network at home.

Anyone whose computer literate (which is actually a small proportion of computer users, unfortunatly) runs Windows 2K. There's absolutely no benefit to running Windows ME. It's just a clunky old OS with some bug patches.
