Win2K or Whistler?

For now go with win2k first... but once Whistler comes out and become stable, you can then decide if you wanna upgrade or not...

win2k has proven itself to be a good operating system. who knows if whistler will end up being like ME. go with win2k for now is my vote.

Windows ME = Windows 98 third edition
Windows 2000 = NT5
Windows Whistler = NT5.1

Whistler is more like 2000 that ME.

You guys mean to tell me that I can't install Win2K because it doesn't support ata 100? Cause the Win2K setup doesn't recognize my hard drive.. ???

About win2k not regognizing these extra controler cards... i was able to install win2k by providing my ultra66 driver disk as an additional scsi driver when you begin the install. i think that screen might only appear if youère doing a fresh install, on an upgrade it might not ask and you might lose your hard drive 1/2 way trough the install and fail till you reformat.

if someone needs more help with this, feel free to ask me specific questions, i can awnser them, i remember though, it's a pain in the but to install win2k on an unsuported controler card.

Your drives should automatically drop down to ata66. Win2k should install fine. Both of my drives are ata100, and I had no problems installing Win2k.

I've used Whistler Beta 1 and it's a GREAT OS. The only thing I don't like about it is the nasty start menu, which you can change back (and I recommend you do, to). I'm using W2k now and games work great. I play CS, Q3, AOEII, and some others.
