Hey there,

The main use for my pc is for recording and editing audio. I am going to be reformatting in the next week or so, and I an trying to decide whether I whould go for Win2k or 98?

I don't really need the extra featrues of Win2k, as far as server app's, etc, I am just looking for more stability. I don't like having to restart once or twice a day because crap freezes up and gives me errors in 98. (Last time I did a clean install, IE started crashing on me first day?!?!"

I have heard of audio latency problems in Win2k, because of the way MS has forced the routing of audio, but there are new drivers out for my card (M-Audio Delta 66 on the way here as we speak) that supposedly take care of this problem.

Any por/semi-pro audio people have any thoughts on this?

Thanks much!!!

I like using Win98SE for my MIDI workstations at home. I have a great sound card - the Guillemot Isis XL that really only works for Win98. But, 98 has proven to be just fine and I have been able to use it time and time again with no issues in regards to recording, mixing, sequencing, mastering, etc.

I wish I could give you a better perspective on this, but I have yet to use Win2k for audio work at all.

I don't work with audio much except a few audio extraction from an audio cd, but if you want stability, minimum reboot, excellent multitasking, then Windows 2000 is right for you.

I use Win2K for CD ripping, audio recording and editing (sometimes up to hundreds of megs at a time), and MIDI. Haven't had any problems at all.

I used to have some sort of stuttering problem, where huge WAV files (few hundred megs) recorded from analog source would have some stuttering in between, when I was using Win98 though.

Well, I have been using Windows 98, and it just craps out all the time, and I have heard good things about Win2k. I think I will give it a try.

Thanks for the feedback! :)
