win2k only shows 1 battery, but I have 2 (Dell Laptop)

Batteries are hardware and my post in the OS forum got nothing....so I'm posting here too...

I've got a Dell laptop (Inspiron 3500), with 2 batteries, Windows 2000 only shows one battery.

Any ideas on how to get the 2nd one to show???

And if that doesn't work, have you considered installing the Dell utilities for checking power. I abhor installing anything the manufacturer includes for software but you might need to.

gsaldivar, already done that...

astroview, I havent done that yet, and hopefully won't have too. but I will if need be. I have the latest BIOS from dell and win2k should see both batteries as hardware but only see's one.

I'm thinking its probably a proprietary tweak that is done with the Dell software then.

My Sony SuperSlim comes with a proprietary utility that overrides much of the Power Options control panel, and provides some features which are unavailable anywhere else.

As much as I hate using the manufacturer's software, I made an exception in this case...

I think you will find you have 3 batteries. Your motherboard has a small battery to keep the CMOS settings alive. You have a main operating battery, and apparently a second, or backup battery.

From the system's viewpoint, the 2nd backup battery may not actually be in use until the main battery craps out. Or . . . the system may see tham as a single unit bonded together. Why not check with Dell to see which is the case?
