Win2k not "seeing" my HP 7200i CDRW

jackshit

My HP 7200i internal cd/rw drive is not showing up in win2k.
Adaptec checker program says there is nothing attached to IDE2.
This is bs, as it shows up just fine in win98se.
Everything is jumpered fine, connected fine, latest firmware from hp.
Even used "ForceASPI" (a program which creates the ASPI layer in any MS OS0), cuz win2k doesn't come with one.

Strange thing is that the drive is identified correctly in the registry.

WTF???

Thanxamillion 4 any advice/help (besides smash the thing [which is next]).

heh

😕

First thing I would do is go to Device Manager. Then click on "IDE/ATAPI controllers" Now, click on "Secondary IDE Channel". Under "Advanced Settings" see what it says for "Device Type" for "Device 0" and "Device 1".

I have mine set to "None" for IDE Secondary Device 0 because it saves time at bootup. However, this means that unless I change it back to Auto Detection, nothing on that channel will be detected.

You should also set the "Transfer Mode" on both Device 0 and Device 1 to "DMA if available"
Do this on the Primary IDE chanel, too.

Under IDE/ATAPI controllers in Device Manager mine says:

VIA BM Ultra DMA Channel
VIA BM Ultra DMA Channel
VIA Bus Mater Ultra ATA Controller

I assume that the first one listed is IDE1, etc, but there are no "Advanced Options" in the properties of any of these listings.

win2k, right?
