Win2k Mis-reporting Partition Size...please help..

I have a 40GB Maxtor drive in my machine. It has a few partitions. The parition (C:\)which Win2k was installed on was 10GB in size. Now I made a few mistakes when installing Win98 on the same machine on a different partition and everything on C:\ was erased. I didn't bother checking the size of the partition in DOS. In the process of installing Win98 on anohter partition I formated the C:\ (in DOS) since everything was erased anyway.

After Win98 installed, it showed the size of C: as only 2GB!! Now I thought maybe this had to do with Win98 so I re-installed Win2k on C:\ again. It still showed the partition size as 2GB!! However the Volume Manager showed it as being 10GB but if you check the paritition properties in My Computer it shows the size as 2GB!!

How is this possible and how can I free up the other 8GB?? Also I formatted C:\ in DOS after booting it up with the Win98 boot-up disk..if that has any effect on the problem.

Thanks.

Umm if your willing to try another format, what if you load up win2k boot disk, delete the partitions if there might be any extra that were like lost or hidden or some crap I have no clue, and than format and reinstall on it. Would that work by any chance?

I don't have any overlay sofware to mask the HDD size.

And I'm trying to avoid re-formatting at all costs since I just did it..

but if worst comes to worst..I'll just zip whatever I have right now and save it in another partition..and then format and copy it back..
