I flashed some new firmware (1.04) into my Plextor 12/10/32A and now I get a BSOD when I try to boot (even in safe mode).

The drive still works great in my WinME partition.

This happened before when I installed a new sound card. I ended up having to re-format & re-install Win2K. [rant] freakin' hardware nazi OS piece of ...[/rant]

It's very stable as long as your hardware doesn't change :|

Any other horror stories?

I totally agree.
I had to re install 5 times before all my hardware was installed correctly. And I don't have much hardware:

Hp deskjet, HP scanner, winmodem, 815e chipset video/Ac97/100 audio chipset all on mobo.

Had to download a third party software (Fineprint) to get the HP to print double sides. Still can't write by drag/drop on CDrom.

Even so, Win2K is better than 98. Faster and more stable.
I think it was premature in its release and will mature in support.

I am looking for a way to perform a recovery without having to re-install. Anyone knows how to do this let me know: tombilliodeaux@hotmail.com[email="tombilliodeaux@hotmail.com"]tombilliodeaux@hotmail.com

While I can't offer much advice on how to solve your problem I thought I would mention that on several occasions I have removed a hard drive from one computer that runs W2K and placed into another with a substantial difference in hardware and had no problems.

(M)What happens if you disconnect the Plextor and start up??

From my experiance hardware changes rarely cause problems such as this with W2K.

I haven't tried unplugging the drive (removing it from the DM) & rebooting. From experience (re-format #3), this didn't work when I added my Studio PCTV card or my SBLive (re-format #2). The drive is a different scenario, I agree. I'll give it a try.

TomBilliodeaux - Win2K is definitely a better OS; as long as you're not into tweaking hardware.

Psychoholic - moved a hard drive with Win2K to another computer?!? (goose bumps down my spine)

I don't keep anything that important on my Win2K partition - knowing that it is 'temporary' drive space.

Several times with no difficulties, that's why I am perplexed by your situation.
