Win2k LT drivers on a Gateway

It's a nightmare trying to get the lucent drivers to function in Windows 2000.

Installing and updating from the device manager and control panel gives the same result, a non-functioning modem. "Modem failed to respond..."

It's a brand new Zoom 3025L modem not even a month old. Every Lucent driver for windows has been installed. Name it from modem539.exe driver to the latest Zoom 8.02 drivers.

All I'm left with is Microsoft's 5.41G6 LT driver that connects @ 31.2K.

When I dual boot over to Win98SE I get connects above 45k everytime. So the line quality isn't an issue.
Even did 2 reinstall of win2k.

Anyone else in this kinda situation?
Specs: Gateway 810e motherboard, 700 Celeron, 128 MB, Win2k, Win98se
