Win2k locks with long beep Help!!!

I have been running Win2k and often the system locks and I get a long beep. When the beep stops the system comes back on. I checked Task Manager and it says that my memory total is 230,000k and my peak mem is 210,000k. Could it be I do not have enough memory. I have 96mb here are the specs:

FicAZ11 mobo, Duron 700, 96mb pc100.

I installed Office 2000 and I have an oracle 8I database installed. Could it be a problem with low memory or could it be my cpu is getting fried. Any suggestions

Doesn't sound like software issue, sounds more like a hardware issue. Does that motherboard model have a temp warning siren? I know my Abit does, and it buzzes everytime the temp on my CPU goes above the level I've set.

I am not sure I will check I know it came with software that would check your cpu temp but that gave me a warning every five minutes so I uninstalled it.

Well, if something is giving you a warning that your CPU is going above the recommended temperature, that could be the problem.

I suggest re-installing that particular software and monitor the temperature of the CPU while performing different tasks, and see where it stands. If thats the problem, you can probably salvage the CPU by getting a better cooling system.
