Win2k/Linux/Vmware/USB question :)

Right now I have 2 hard drives... 1 has Mandrake Linux 7.2 on it.. the other has Windows 2000 on it. I'm going to format the linux drive and get rid of GRUB. When I fdisk my MBR I'm assuming that I'll have to repair the win2k installation right? Or is there a simpler way?
After that's done I'm going to setup the 2nd drive in windows... and I'm thinking about installing VMWare and running linux that way. My question here is does USB work in linux in vmware? What I'm trying to do is have my USB DSL modem work in linux... will this do it for me? I think I heard a co-worker saying that vmware will use my windows drivers for all the hardware in linux... how true is that? I'd never heard that before.
BTW my DSL modem is the Alcatel Speedtouch USB (stingray) that Bellsouth gives you... to my knowledge there is not a driver for linux for this yet.
