i have my system running with win2k installed and win2k has everything on irq9 (7 different devices) my sound card, vid card, nic, onboard raid, usb , etc..
the sound is crackly and the system is unstable i really need to get some of this stuff off irq 9 but windows won't let me
nomatter what i set in the bios (award asus a7v mb) win2k just does it's own thing and puts everything on irq 9
anyone know how i can fix this ?????

ok i was reading through how-to's and old forum posts
it seems my problem is acpi
since my win2k cd is messed up i can't do the most safe of the two ways to fix this problem (install as an upgrade and choose standard pc or whatever)
so tell me how safe is this method:

System properties
Hardware/Device Manager
Computer
Advanced acpi (double click)
Update driver
Select "Display a list of known drivers...."
Select "Standard PC"
next

would following those steps disable acpi and allow my system to work properly ??
is it dangerous ??
anyone pulled it off ??

Perfectly safe, I've done it many a time. Go for it.

Just a forewarning, your computer will reboot after you change it to standard. Then it will redetect EVERY DEVICE on your computer, and then reboot again.

I've also done this with good success rates.
Be sure you have every driver disk on hand.

Good luck and let us know how it went.
