I just installed Win2K on a new computer yesterday. I started overclocking my Duron today and everything seemed stable (Duron 650 @ 900). All of a sudden it started crashing so I slowed it down a bit. Kept happening to I took it back to default settings. Even after this the computer keeps crashing.

I'm running Win2k and each time it crashes I'm running Winamp, IE 5.5, and downloading off Mirc. I've got all the latest updates, and Service pack 1 installed.

Is there some way to log what happens under Win2K so I can figure out what the problem is? There is no error message, the computer justs goes blue for half a sec and starts booting back up.

TIA

bring the speed down a little bit, and see if the same prob happens.

Check the Event Viewer under Administrative Tools and see if you have anything there.

I brought the speed all the way down to 650. Here's what I think the prob is.

Running Winamp, IE, and Mirc, everything is fine. I last time had my computer up for about half an hour doing this. As soon as I started downloading in IRC, the BSOD happened. In IRC I was only in one room, downloading 4 tar files. They're each about 100 megs, and I was getting about 250 kb/sec downstream, plus Winamp running a 128k stream. It's as if the computer can't handle all the data, but that can't be it.

Does this give anyone an idea of where the problem may lie?

I'm going to go download in IRC again, 5 bucks says I'll be rebooting within 5 min :)

There are 3 entries for each session. Hhe first 2 are simply the computer logging on. The 3rd also happens when the pc logs, but doesn't look routine to me.

Here's what it event viewer says:

The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x0000000a (0x0100005a, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x80064cb9). Microsoft Windows 2000 [v15.2195]. A dump was saved in: C:\WINNT\Minidump\Mini010100-09.dmp.

I used to get those bugcheck restarts all the time. It is quite annoying. Especially in the middle of writing a paper. Anyhow, I think I traced the problem down to instablity with IE 5.5 and another application. Make sure you have all the latest updates from windows update. That's what cured the problem for me. For now anyways. Good luck.

I can say with certainty the problem is limited to IRC. I left my pc running overnight with LeechFTP downloading linux, and a shoutcast stream running and it's still running this morning.

I tried reinstalling mirc, but still the same problem. Anybody have any advice?

Another Update: I installed a different IRC client, and removed mIRC. Same thing happened as before. This time the following message appeared on the BSOD:

Driver_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

also appearing was this:

Beginning dump of physical memory

This leads me to believe there is some problem with the system memory management settings. I only have 128mb, but this should be more than enough to run the OS stable.

I'm using default installation settings.
