Win2k Issue

I've got this old laptop that I use basically just to browse the internet and use a diagnostics program for my car (Vw).

It uses Win2k since its a little less memory intensive than XP or anything...or maybe I could try Linux...anyway. When I say old, I mean old...like a Pentium 1 233mhz w/ 128 megs of ram...but it does have a 12gig HD.

So, recently I get this error messege on startup saying my page file is too small blah blah blah. I go into properties to try and change the size but the change never actually 'sticks' if you get what I'm saying. Windows has it stuck at 20mb and I try to increase it to about 128 or so but it never actually works. I tried using the recovery console with the Win2k disc but that does nothing...I'm not sure what else to try?

Also, when I try to install Office 2k3 or Office XP...I just need Word and Excel basically...but it says the Windows Installer service is not started...so I go into services.msc and try to start it and I get an error messege saying it's unable to run...

What can I do? The recovery console doesn't work...what else can I do to rectify these problems? And don't try the 'buy a new laptop' bit cause I would of done that already if it weren' for college :p so any help would be great!!

Thanks guys and gals!

Did you forget to press the Set button in the page file option dialog? (It's different than the obligatory 'OK'.)

I wish I did...lol!!

Alas, no it still doesn't work I'm not sure what to do about it either. Also, the error while installing is something like Error 1719 saying the installer service is not installed...figure that one out heh...seems redundent to me.

Anyone else?

Make sure SYSTEM has full control of the root directory where the pagefile is being put.

Around 10 gigs of 12.

Ok, where do I look for that and how would I change it if that does need to be fixed?

Thanks.

Thanks.

If for example that page file is on c:\:

Right click Drive C in Windows Explorer. Security tab and it's fairly obvious from there.

Ok, well that took care of the pagefile issue...but it still leaves me not being able to install Office 2k3 on here.

Any help with that?
