I am currently running windows me, and wanted to install win2k and have a dual boot setup. What do i need to do to complete this setup? i know that i need to bootup using the win2k cd, after reading another post, but they also said something about d: partition. Do i need to re-partition my harddrive or something? thanx

you can just install win2k on the same drive as you have your Win ME , and win2k will automatically make dual boot , just don't choose to reformat to NTFS format, leave FAT32.

I may be the one who made reference to a "D" partition. My 20GB HDD has 4 partitions. The first time I installed Win2K I installed it to "D" while WinME remained on "C" and I had a dual boot. After a week I deleted the Win2K folder on "D" and reformatted "C."

(I reformatted to NTFS and left the other partitions as FAT32. To be honest, I don't know the what the ramifications of formatting the "C" partition to NTFS or FAT32 are. Maybe someone else like anton can weigh in on that.)

Anyway, I obviously said "good bye" to WinME and did a clean install of Win2K to "C." :D

You avoid file conflicts if they are on different partitions.

I guess WinME seems like the greatest thing since sliced bread if you are a relatively inexperienced PC user. On the other hand, if you know your way around a PC, WinME quickly strikes you as a "dumbed down" OS.
