I have 2 hard drives and am dual booting with boot magic... actually each hard drive right now has WinMe on it (don't ask me)...

I want to install Windows 2k... what is my best approach... can I reboot, have it install from CD, and direct it to install on my second hard drive... I want to keep things FAT32 and I have a bunch of data (music files) on the drive I plan to put win2k on

How best to proceed with this? Suggestions, advice....

Yes you can. FAT32 is supported by 2k. I would delete the stuff off the new drive except for your MP3's. The D:\program files and D:\windows directories (or whatever drive letter). Also, any program directories as they won't be any use until you re-install the programs (have to update the registry). Do this to make sure win 2k doesn't get too many ideas about different operating systems on there. You don't want to triple boot do you? :) Boot from CD and make sure to select where you want the OS installed (blue screen area of setup). Be careful later on in install also as it asks you again where your files are stored and where you want them transferred to. Watch for a check box at the bottom of a install box. Don't flip if you don't see it, just be careful not to rush the install. Oh, and make sure you select "Clean Install" if it asks. This keeps if from overwriting win ME.

Win 2k will automatically recognize win me and give you a boot option like BootMagic, although not as fancy looking (just black screen and white text). I have no idea about a boot magic install, you shouldn't need it for this. Just FYI: win 2k needs at least 685mb of free space, so make sure you have the room.

LUCK!!!! Tell us how it goes. Its nice to know if things work out!
