Win2k IBM 60GXP Asus intall problem

Got my IBM 60GXP 40 gig drive as recomended on this forum. Have tried to install Win2k Pro 4 times on it and my Asus A7V133 1 gig T-Bird. Install goes fine but does not pick up any of my plug and play devices. I have installed Win2k 20 times on varying systems and never had this problem, including on this one with a Maxtor 30 gig. I have tried installing on and off the Promise controller with no luck. I keep thinking I have changed something in the cmos to cause this but have reset it to defaults with no success. Each time I allowed Win2k to format the drive in NTFS. I tried it with the Plug and Play setting on and off in the cmos, no difference.

I have a very similar problem as you only that I can install everything but for some reason it give me blue screen of death after I use win2k pro for a while. So I finally figure out what the problem was, remember that this fix is for Western Digital and it might work for IBM. The booklet on my HD manual saids that if you have 30GB or over and using windows 2000 or Windows NT you must disable what is call the "Floppy boot Protection" am not sure the exact word for it but it something about floppy protection. This option is not in CMOS its in your HD's bios so you need the disk that came with your HD to do this. BTW both of my drive is above 30GB, oh yeah you also need to use your motherboards IDE don't use Promise when doing this becasue it sometime won't recognize the HD in promise card atleast it wouldn't recognize it for WD when I tried to fixed it.

Notes: When you installing any Windows base operating system make sure you turn off the virus protection in CMOS.

I just took my 5-gxp 40 gig, plugeed it into my epox8k7a and away I went.

I think it sounds more like ASUS mobo being gay then yoru hard drive. Your HD is just storing the info. But maybe the other guy is right, who knows.

It is not the hard drive. I just tried it with a 20 gig Maxtor with the same results...It's got to be a setting in this bios 1002a... I'w going to flash it to the latest and see if that helps.
