Win2k: How do I manage Startup Program?

In Win 98, there is Msconfig. From the Faqs, I found out there is a way to manage startup file: the administrative tool. But which part of administrative tool that let you do that?

TIA!

The easiest way is to use The Startup Control Panel.
Before I found that I used to look through the appropriate entried in the registry, as well as the Startup group in the start menu, but the startup control panel is so much more comfortable 🙂

I believe the Services section allows you to set which programs start up automatically or not. Hope this helps.

Easy way. Copy msconfig from 98 or me and copy it to the windows dir in win2k.

It seems like using services. then changing it properties from each services is the best way. No installation or copying of any files. Thanks for your input all!!

Just remember that not all programs are registered as services (in other words, you won't be able to turn off the startup feature of certain programs if they aren't installed as services of W2k). I would just use a third-party startup control program or a copy of W98 msconfig.

I agree with Doh!. Not all programs will register as component services. The best way to see what s being loaded, and from where, is with any of the windows 2000 startup control programs. Using a copy of win98 will work, but the other non MS progs offer more/better features depending on which one you get. I am using jv16 and it works great
