Win2k Hard drive transfer?

Can I transfer a Windows2k HD from one computer to another?

I just spent a weekend getting a HD up to par with fresh everything now I find out I get to put it into a different computer and not use the old one anymore. Is there a 'good' way of doing that so I don'thave to reinstall everything again?

as far as i know its going to be troublesome.
prolly save you a headache and a lot of trouble of just reinstalling win2k.
but maybe some1 knows another way.

one of my company's previous helpdesk guys would remove the Plug N play bus from device manager, and then shut down, move the drives and be done with it. I'm not sure how well that works though. The Drive will be going to a pc with the same cpu type, but from a dell to a gateway(somewhat counterintuitive, but the gateway is a tower without a riser board and has agp slot)

I think the challenge/problem is going to be any differences in drivers between the two systems. However, if the chipsets and same gfx drivers are used on both systems prolly won't be a problem.

Otherwise, HERE is an Anandtech article on how to do this. It's titled how to change motherboards, but its really the same thing to switch the HDD in your case. NOTE: Scroll down and read the part under "Misc Notes".

Also, it might be possible to run a repair installation.
That way, all the drivers, theoretically, are deleted, and reinstalled as needed during the installation, or by you afterwards.

Yeah, that's pretty much what the Anandtech article has him do.
