Win2k hangs when using custom keyboard shortcuts

I've got several keyboard shortcuts mapped to start various applications. They seem to work ok except that half the time there is a noticeable lag between pressing the keys and the program starting. In the meantime windows is essentially frozen. I can access the start menu or work with any other programs until the program that is associated with the shortcut key starts. This applies to all applications that can be started via shortcut key. Also, this never happens when running any of the applications manually or by using the start menu shortcut. This is rather annoying. Please help.

Just my suggestion by why not consider installing a hotkey utility? It will:

- make it much easier to manage all of your hotkeys from one interface
- bypass all the restrictions of Windows "shortcut key" feature (such as the fact that your shortcut had to exist in the Start menu or desktop in order to work)
