I just updated my 98 system to win2k. My darn frame rates have been cut by 2/3!!
Normaly I get about 100fps in Nascar4 and now I'm getting 30-35!
I downloaded the new nvidia 21.83 drivers to try to fix the issue. Here is the wierd thing,
At the desktop I run 1024x768@16bit@120HZ. When I enter any game my video switches to 38/60HZ....and I cannot figure out how to get it to set higher...it always ran at over 100hz with win98 and I got great frame rates, I also reinstalled dx8 just incase win2k overwrote portions of it.
Can you think of how I can get win2k desktop HZ to set the same in the game?

VisionTek GF3

Nevermind I got it fixed, I had to download a patch to fix it, from quakeplanet

First question, does your monitor support refresh rates at that resolution? If not you should back it down... or gameplay gets skippy. You can push all the refresh rates you want with your video card, but if you monitor doesn't support it, it does you no good.

Both windows XP and 2K default to 60hz when playing games. Not sure if it's MS or nVIDIA, they argue like Via and Creative about the SBLive Issues. Download and install the NV Refresh Rate Fix here. Also, download the .inf file for your monitor and reinstall it.

Have you gone to windowsupdate and downloaded SP2? If not you should... helps a great deal. FYI much better to do a clean install of win2k. Before you do... go to help and make boot disks. You cannot install win2k from DOS. You will need 4 disks to make the win2K boot disks. Highly recommend you do it anyway since it will allow you to repair a win2k installation if you run into problems.
