win2k format problems

Ive just been trying to reinstall win2k sp2 on my new 60gxp 60gig drive. I was going to have a 30gig partition for docs etc with other partitions for the os, progs and linux.

I was trying to format the 30gig partition in windows but every time i tried i got an error message saying the size was too large. has anyone else had this problem?

i eventually just created 2 separate 15 gig partitions to get round the problem.

Are you formatting it in NTFS or FAT32? There is some kind of limit for the size that w2k can format a FAT32 drive there is no limit on reading it. I can't recall the exact size of the limit off hand.

Limit for FAT 32 partitions in Windows 2000 is, coincidentally, 32 gig. For NTFS you can have up to 2 terabytes of directly attatched storage and 16 exabytes of distributed storage.
