win2k feeling sluggish with games

I was playing the Counterstrike Mod of Hallife like I always do, but this time I was on win 2k pro, instead of win 98 SE, and I am curious to why it felt sluggish and if there is any way to fix this dilemna?
 
use OGL instead of D3D. that might help a bit. also, what video card do you have? that makes a difference. if its a geforce one, DONT install DX8 and the new DX8 drivers (ver 7.xx) because performance will be killed.

27.3 gig 7200 RPM IDE - COmpletely full

Would my HD being full have anything to do with this problem?
 
Check for video & sound cards sharing IRQ's in Device Manager. Try to put each device on its own IRQ, if possible.
 
wcummings, if your hard drive is anything close to being full, you're going to have major problems, not just slow performance.
 
also suggest clearing out some HD space, so the there is enough swap going through. save at least a .5 gigs for swaps
