win2k emergency repair disk

me being the naive dunce that i am, i never created an emergency repair disk for win2k pro. then the other day after a restart my computer decided that one of the system files was corrupt and it could no longer recognize my windows installation. i cannot even reinstall windows because i only have win2k upgrade so it has to see a previous version of windows on my HDD to install (which it doesnt anymore because of the corrupted file/s)

i am having an old win98 CD sent to me which will hopefully fix the problem but if i can fix this before then it would be great. i am hoping an emergency repair disk would help me fix what needs to be fixed but as i dont have one made, and every other computer around me is running winXP, im not sure how/if i can get one. any suggestions?
