stupid newbie question here reguarding windows dynamic disks

If i created a raid 5 array using external hard drives over USB or firewire would i be able to move the array around as a whole between machines? if the host OS dies can i plug the drives into another machine and will windows figure out what to do from there? i've heard that i can do this with freebsd but i'd much rather do it with windows dynamic disks seeing as i know nothing about bsd.

After plugging the removable drive in, they should show up in Disk Management as "foreign" dynamic-disk volumes, and then you will have to "import" them. Then they should work.

You should also realize that you can't create a softare RAID 5 array without a server version of Windows, MS only lets you create RAID 0 or linear sets with Home/Pro.

Not legally anyway. There was an article on another site that gives instructions on how to enable
it for XP. But I'm not inclined to put that into practice.
