Win2K dualboot install problems

i have winme and was planning on doing a dual boot w/ win2k. i have 5 partitions, so more than enough room to fit her in.
i copied the files off of the cd onto my hd and started the install from there. it went fine until after it requested to reboot. on reboot, it continued w/ the win2k setup, but after getting past the initial blue screen and starting win2k i get a blue screen that reads error, hard disk inaccessible or something of that nature.
any ideas??

Where did you copy the files to on you HD for Win2K? For some reason, I think it likes C:. Nonetheless, a CD install is probably much nicer for you.

Copying files is a very good method for Win9x .. but not too good for NT-based OSes ('cuz NT ain't DOS).

I've installed Win2K several times with the i386 file on various partitions. Never a problem.

How about your complete system specs? Motherboard, CPU, etc.
 
I had the same issue. I think you best bet is to install it of the CD. Win2k setup might not be seeing the drive letters the same way as it does when your installing from WinMe.
Or use a Startup disk and install it from Command prompt. This might actually do the trick.
 
Do you have any of the partitions on a third party HD controller? If you do, it may be an issue with drivers. Win2K can install but BSOD on reboot if the drive is on a third party controller. I had this issue with the Promise controller on the A7V.

When you install Win2K, make sure that you tell it to install the Highpoint IDE RAID drivers or else you will not be able to boot off the RAID. you have to press a key at a certain stage to tell it that you want to install a third party mass storage controller. You'll most likely need to have these drivers on disk since I doubt Win2K will have them prepackaged since the board is relatively new.

 
i'm not bothering w/ the raid setup for now.
i only have 1 hd so i'm not able to use it, yet.
however, thx for the info- prove useful when i chose to raidify my system 🙂
