My 98se box is destabilizing pretty badly, and I'm gonna have to wipe and reinstall the os soon, and was thinking of switching to win2k.

I was wondering how good driver support is. I currently mainly doing photoshop, flash, and html work, but also play Diablo2, halflife, and other assorted games and need stability.

Running a V3 and an mx300, dlink 10/100 nic.

feedback?

Just made this switch myself. So far, so good. UT works, MDK2 works, 3dMark2000 works, drivers seem fine. I've got a Geforce DDR, and the nvidia Win2k drivers rock. I definitely like it so far.

I have an MX300 and also in Win2k, and the Vortex2 is not something you want for Win2k. The sound skips frequently whenever i listen to MP3s, but its just fine in games and MP3s if I use the A3D plugin for WinAMP. The Voodoo3 Beta drivers work excellent, and have lots more tweaks than the Win9x ones. But make sure you get the newest betas, because the older ones had problems with Half-Life. UT works fine, as does MDK2 and NBA Live 2000 for me. You can get the 3dfx drivers from www.3dfxgamers.com and the Vortex2 drivers from support.aureal.com. If I'm not mistaken, Win2k will automatically detect your NIC card.

I just installed win2k last night, and so far, I've had only minor problems. Had some trouble booting this morning, but some driver installs seem to have taken care of those.

So far so good.

as for my mx300, no troubles yet, but I might trade for my friend's sb live value oem since he's using 98se and he'll be moving out (leaving the comp).

just gonna have to cross the fingers and hope everything goes well
