When I had Win98 SE, my score was 3046.
Now that I installed Win2K because of influence from the forums, my score went down to 1746.
Is this sort of thing normal? Is there anyway to improve my score?

edit- It's not that I'm putting down Win2K, I mean it's a great OS but the drastic decreased performance might get annoying... help?

You shouln't loose all that.

Did you install the 4-1? and what videodrivers are you using? below 6 decreases performance alot!
I got 6.49 asus drivers now and gets around 2500 with geforce 1ddr.

And did you install the latest dx8?

It could just be those 1000s of unexplained problems during installation of OSs especially on AMD systems. Same thing happened to me...I just rebooted my machine after cleaning out my HD and taking out some of the unnecssary startup programs...ran the benchmark again and I got nearly 4000 (that's after scoring below 2000 several times).

try this

create a user account with no admin privlages. This will load a lot less services in the background and thus be better for gaming. You can do this by going into the control panel and then to users.

Also the performance shouldn't be that big of a difference. Somehting is definitely wrong there. You should only loose a few percentage points performance wise. No more then 10% unless the drivers are whacky.

get the 12.XX drivers. I tried the 12.60 and they gave a nice performance. Download the latest 4-1 drivers. 4.28 or later. And when installing the 4-1 install the agp in turbo mode.

He meant using 12.xx detonator beta drivers for Nvidia video cards... the latest version is 12.90... you can get them here.

I heard that I shouldn't install the 4-in-1 drivers for this kind of motherboard(FIC AD11), is that true?

Hey now, if we all jumped off of a bridge, would you do it too? :p

Seriously though, 3DMark isn't entirely real world, ya know? Have you tested out some games? I lost about 2FPS average going from 98SE to 2k.

edit- I just saw your question about the VIA4-in-1s and I must say that I've seen this exact case many times (assuming you haven't installed the 4-in-1s), where people are having poor 3DMark scores & performance in games, someone suggests the 4-in-1s and boom, right back to scores comparable to 9x. I haven't heard about any problems with that mobo and the 4-in-1s, so I suggest installing them. Though I could be wrong, just back up important stuff if you need to and reformat if you have to.

but i dont get it, it was fine with win98se, so how does installing via drivers make a difference? Do I have to update by installing the via drivers since i updated from win98se to win2k?

You mean you didn't bust a clean install? That could be a problem, but yeah, the VIA 4-in-1s are important for performance/reliability/compatibility. If I were in your shoes, I'd reformat and do a clean Win2k install and install the VIA 4-in-1s before anything else (including the vid drivers). Good luck
