Win2k doesn't play well with others...will XP be better?

I am brand new to running 2k. Problem is it doesn't appear to be very backward compatable with software. If the kids say, hey Dad can
you install that game over there on the shelf? 2k locks up during install. ---Will XP be better? Should I go back to 98? Any input would
help greatly...

Just got back from an XP convention yesterday w/ my copy of XP. there is a compatability mode that you can set programs to run in a simulated OS...i.e. 9x/ME or NT/2k. i haven't really tried it much cuz i've only had it on my system for about 24 hours but it's supposed to be pretty decent...can't guarantee any thing tho...but check it out
