win2k: Does IDE setting "use DMA vs. PIO" affect CD/RW ?

In control panel, system, device manager, IDE controlers, "transfer mode" on IDE1 bus is set to "PIO only"
This is the IDE which my CD/RW is attached to.
A friend says he switched this setting, and it resolved the fact that his CUP was being pinned 100% when he would burn a CD.

Should I switch it to DMA?
Or does this only apply to hard drives?

Thanks for any links or other info on this topic

If your CDRW supports DMA it should be enabled. What does you BIOS say when your computer boots up? Usually it will say if the drive can do DMA when it is detected.
