Win2K: Descent3 - Jumps Frames

Olias

Let me start by saying that I did not have this problem in Win98/ME.
However, in Win2000, Descent3 will suddenly jump way ahead skipping several
frames. Its like I warped in one blink of an eye. Otherwise its very smooth
but when it happens I usually end-up smack into a wall or way off course.
Happens both with OpenGL and DirectX. Also tried DirectX 8.0 and the Win2K
Compatibility Updates. Here are my system specs...

Windows 2000 Pro (SP1)
Descent3 (1.4 patch)

Asus P3V4X Motherboard, VIA 133A chipset (BIOS 1005)
P3-733MHz SECC2 Coppermine Processor
256MB, PC-133 SDRAM
Asus V6800 Pure, GeForce 32MB DDR AGP Display Adapter
3Com EthierLink PCI TPO NIC
SB Live Value Sound Card
HP CD-Writer+ 8200
Maxtor DiamondMax Plus-40 30Gig DMA/66 HDD
Microsoft SideWinder Precision Pro (USB) Joystick
Microsoft Natural Keyboard Elite (PS/2)
Logitech Optical Wheel Mouse (PS/2)

I'm using Nvidia's 6.31 Detonator3 drivers with VIA's 4in1 425(1)a drivers
and also Creative's Live!Ware 3.0 driver for Windows 2000. The video card
runs at 4x AGP, fast writes and side band addressing enabled. I use a good
300 watt Antec power supply and the system is very stable.

TIA, Mitch

Sorry I cant help, I've got Descent on my win 98 partition, and win2k on the other.

I only kept win 98 around for the sake of Descent 3. Online multiplayer is addictive!

Now I may be tempted to try it on win2k.... hmmmmmmm

NE1 at all running Descent3 in Win2K? Please tell me if it?s the game engine or some weird hardware combination. Q3 and Half-Life run flawlessly.

Thanks again...

Someone in another forum said that SP1 causes this jumping video and Win2k has to be reinstalled without the service pack? Anyone want to take a crack at this?
