Ok I got tired of ME lockups and installed Win2k. It's great, rock solid, I can play ALL my games. Problem is with ME my wife had her own log-in with background, favorites and so on. I just moved her favorites over in her name but she won't have it. Says if I don't give her back her personal stuff she will make my life miserable. Now she's not real smart with computers but she is a genius at making me suffer. Does Win2k Pro provide a solution for this?

P.S. The ONLY other problem I have is in dial-up-networking... it keeps changing my log in password.:(

i dont understand what your talking about, seems like you just want to setup multiple users on the same machine, which is a piece of cake, you can find it under Users & Passwords in the Control Panel. Just add a user and password, and login as that person....

OK, but will I be able to set up each user with a personal profile...background, favorties... as in ME?

I'll just try it when I get home. Maybe then I won't look any stupider.

Thanks

If you have a spare drive, have you thought about putting in mobile docks? Then she can have her own drive running ME and your life will go on in peace.

Here's a better idea, since you're married to Satan incarnate, get her her own machine! Get a CHEESY, CHEAP one too (Duron or Celeron 400MHz or less). Those things are CRAZY DIRT CHEAP now a days!

This would be a win-win situation! She'll think you're the best for getting the machine for her and you'll get her out of your hair!

numana's idea is the a really good idea...

get her a cheap machine... if she's not smart with computers, she won't know the difference, and she can customize it however she wants and not bug you about it. hey, maybe she'll even learn some stuff while she's at it. hmm.. OOOHH.. how about let her set the whole thing up.. with your guidance of course, maybe she'd like that.. who knows, maybe you'll get some sort of "reward.."

Thanks for all the great ADVICE<grin>. I was totally stupid, all I had to do was set up different users.

Now can anyone tell me why dial-up networking will not save my password. It keeps adding my full name to the end of my password. I know it is picking it up from somewhere but WHERE???:disgust:

Emory7, of course you can setup each user with a personal profile using Win2K, keeping backgrounds, Favorites, etc. all separate. Unlike WinME, Win2K is a real multiuser operating system, so you know it can do it if a toy operating system like WinME can. You just need to create a user for yourself and one for your wife.

Win2k is specifically designed with multiple users in mind works so much better then Win 98

If you're referring to the extra ******'s Win2k adds to your DUN password, that's perfectly normal. The OS does that itself to add to the security of your DUN password. That way, someone can't go on your computer and find out that you have, say, a 8 digit password for your DUN connection. You should still be able connect fine with those extra *****'s in the password field. If not, then it's doing something that I haven't come across before.
